Canopy By Hilton Accepting Room Reservations, Event Bookings

It’s definitely getting closer! The new 216-room Canopy by Hilton at the Steel District has opened up its first room reservations and already has special events booked into 2027.

The-one-a-kind property uniquely designed for Sioux Falls sits above the city’s signature Falls Park and is on track for a fall opening. That means you can begin reserving guest rooms for Jan. 10, 2025 and beyond now. Book your room through www.hilton.com.

“That date will move closer as we approach opening, but it’s a great chance to ensure you’re reserving exactly what you need for that special travel you already know is coming up next year,” said Jennifer Seifert-Brenna, vice president of hospitality for Lloyd Companies.

“We think people are going to be absolutely amazed as they see this hotel come together and are able to step inside for themselves.

”Most of the upper-level guest rooms have furniture, fixtures and equipment installed, and the complete exterior is being closed in with much of the brick finalized and windows installed. A skywalk connecting the Steel District’s office tower to the hotel has been built, and the main lobby and conference center will be the final areas completed.

“The windows are amazing,” Seifert-Brenna said. “I’ve not opened a hotel with windows this size in the guest rooms, and I think it will just be very impressive to our visitors and guests. The rooms themselves are bright and very spacious with all the light coming through, simple and comfortable.”

The options for events are truly exciting, from a grand ballroom to outdoor venues and private board rooms. There’s a total of 20,000 square feet for events divided into multiple flexible options.

The Legacy Ballroom spans nearly 9,000 square feet, but can be subdivided and reconfigured in multiple ways.

“It has very high ceilings with a window overlooking the pre-function area, which is one long wall of windows overlooking the river’s edge,” Seifert-Brenna said. “It’s bright and cheery and the view of the Falls will be amazing. Because it can break down, this allows us to accommodate meetings and events of many sizes.”

The Parlour meeting spaces allow for more intimate gatherings, with hardwood floors, a fireplace and large windows.

“We also have a greenroom space that’s a good fit for anyone from a guest speaker to a bride that needs an extra space to get ready,” Seifert-Brenna said.

On the second story, there are additional meeting rooms, including one that can open up to more than 2,000 square feet.

“They’re adjacent to a two-story walk-up staircase surrounded in glass,” Seifert-Brenna said. “And under the hotel itself we also have a beautiful board room that overlooks the Levitt, so that’s a really special space for us, with a patio off the board room.”

Additional meeting rooms offer collaborative space, soft seating areas and various levels of formality.

“We’re getting phone calls daily and it’s just very gratifying that the community is responding to all the hard work that so many people have put into this project,” Seifert-Brenna said. “We’re seeing a really good mix of social events, fundraisers, regional meetings and some events that already are booking multi-year contracts.”

One early reservation came from the Sioux Falls nonprofit Emily’s Hope, which will hold its 2025 Art Show & Auction at the hotel on Jan. 25, 2025.

“Having consistently outgrown our previous venues, we are excited that the Canopy by Hilton can accommodate over 500 attendees, allowing us to welcome even more supporters to our signature event,” president and CEO Angela Kennecke said.

“We are immensely grateful to the Canopy by Hilton for their generosity in making this beautiful space available to us as a non-profit organization. Their commitment to the community is evident, and we are honored to be among the first large events in this new venue. We look forward to an unforgettable evening in this exceptional events center.”

No matter what your reason for reserving space that the hotel, you’re going to be amazed by the setting itself, Seifert-Brenna said.

“You’ll see the water flowing through the Falls and the beauty of the park, combined with attractions like the new ice ribbon and Lloyd Landing. Our guests are going to look out their windows and see something no one else in town can see.

”The Canopy by Hilton also continues to build out its leadership team, which currently includes:

Hristiyana Ralinova, general manager

Richard J. Fischer, director of sales

Nichelle Lund, senior sales manager

Scott Meyer, director of property operations

“They’ve been really busy booking leads and getting everything ready for opening,” Seifert-Brenna said. “We’ll also be interviewing for other key positions like the executive chef and food and beverage manager. I anticipate those coming on board by some time in August and we’ll have a leadership team of 17 at that point, then begin hiring midlevel management and hourly employees.”
