New restaurants at downtown’s Steel District are almost ready to open.
They’re located on the first floor of the office building that sits at the center of the development along Falls Park.
Diners got a first taste of Dahlia Kitchen + Bar, a contemporary Mexican restaurant, over the weekend.
The restaurant offered samples of some of its cocktails and mocktails, along with its tacos, chips and guacamole.
The overall menu still is being finalized.
Dahlia will focus on modern Mexican cuisine and tequilas.
Adjacent to it, Big Sioux Burger also is wrapping up construction. It will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu similar to Burger Dive, which is from the same operators in the Twin Cities.
The spaces “look great,” said restaurateur Josh Thoma. “We’re fired up. Now we just need employees.”
Both Big Sioux Burger and Dahlia are scheduled to open Oct. 15.
In late October, Ironwood will join them. It’s a two-story restaurant focused on steak and seafood.
It’s a multifaceted, high-end space that includes expansive views of Falls Park.
All three restaurants will include patio space, offering a chance for riverfront dining.
Some in management are relocating for the restaurants, but “a lot of our managers are local,” Thoma said, adding that ultimately the restaurants need about 100 people as they open.
